Shanghai Zhangjiang Group announced on July 11 that it will establish a robot valley and develop it into world-class hub and innovative center for the robotics industry, according to a local news report.

The Yangtze River Delta region, centered on Shanghai, is home to many well-known international and domestic robot manufacturing and application enterprises. Its total production capacity accounts for more than 50 percent of the national total.

Zhangjiang is an important hub for the robotics industry in Shanghai, and is home to a number of leading robotics enterprises from China and abroad, including Swiss digital technology giant ABB.

Statistics show that Zhangjiang is currently home to more than 150 automation and robotics enterprises.

Yuan Tao, chairman of Shanghai Zhangjiang Group, said that Zhangjiang is stepping up efforts to develop an innovation center for science and technology and has made remarkable achievements in independent innovation. Zhangjiang is also prioritizing the development of the robotics industry and has already mastered core robotics technologies.

The Zhangjiang Robot Valley will focus on the development of spare parts and basic software technology for robots, as well as on high-end medical robots, industrial robots, and intelligent service robots, in an effort to create unique and competitive products.
