Popular tourist attractions in Shanghai's Pudong district have been announcing a series of special activities to kick off on Jan 1, 2020, setting a mood to welcome the New Year.

The New Year's Day Ascend Running activity, a traditional event with a history of 25 years, will start at 9am in the city square in front of the Oriental Pearl Tower, a landmark in Pudong and one of the world's tallest TV towers.

Participants will run from the square to the top of the tower, symbolizing the climb up the ladder of success.

The Dream Run at the Shanghai International Resort will attract a total of 4,000 participants to run a 7.8 kilometer route passing two 4A-level scenic spots.

Such sports activities, designed to encourage fitness, also include a running event around the Dishui Lake in the Lin-gang area, which was launched in 2016.

Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park will hold an Ice and Snow Festival from December 2019 to February 2020, featuring a New Year's Eve party and a Spring Festival fair.

Next year is the year of the rat in China. A variety of animal shows in which rodents play the leading role will be staged at Shanghai Wild Animal Park from Jan 1, 2020.

Visitors to Shanghai Maritime Museum will get a chance to learn about intangible cultural heritages and make traditional ship models and woodblock prints under the guidance of skilled craftspeople.

Tourists who experience the "Walking in the Clouds" program at the Jin Mao Tower will get a wooden postcard to send good wishes for 2020.
