The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone will vigorously promote the development of the artificial intelligence and emerging industries such as 5G -- amid a concerted effort to boost the regional economy, local media reported on Sept 10.

As a core part of Shanghai FTZ, its bonded area has made major achievements and attracted a number of leading companies and platforms. These can provide rich application scenarios for AI and 5G technology, according to Chen Yanfeng, vice director of the management committee of Shanghai FTZ.

Chen said that with concerted efforts of all parties involved, the bonded area is expected to be built into a technical center with full coverage of 5G networks and diversified AI application scenarios.

This would create an optimized business environment for the companies and facilitate the economic upgrading and transformation of Shanghai, Chen added.

The latest statistics reveal that to date, the bonded area has become home to a number of scientific and innovation platforms and 85 high-tech enterprises in the areas of AI, biomedicine, information technology, new materials and among others.
