The second batch of artificial intelligence (AI) scenario demands was released in Shanghai on July 2, local media reported.

A total of 28 scenarios were selected, six of which are from Pudong New Area, covering sectors such as transportation, finance, healthcare and industrial parks.

Last December, Shanghai released a construction plan to implement the first AI application scenarios, aiming to attract new technologies and push the city to the forefront of AI development. Key areas include education, medical care, manufacturing, and urban management.

It is expected that by 2020, Shanghai will build 60 AI application scenarios.

Wu Jincheng, head of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, said that the municipality has been working tirelessly to develop itself into a hub of innovative AI applications and talent development to drive the local economy.

To date, over 350 AI companies have settled in Pudong New Area, 60 of which are valued at more than 65 billion yuan ($9.46 billion) each.
