Marinetech 2019 -- a leading event in the global maritime sector -- kicked off in Shanghai on June 18, with over 200 representatives from worldwide shipping companies and financial institutions in attendance.

A report on global shipping blockchain development by a Pudong shipping think tank was released.

Qi Yinliang, founder of the think tank, said that in the era of the digital economy -- driven by the internet, internet of things, artificial intelligence and blockchain -- the shipping market is still based on traditional B2B industries and lags behind in digital development.

COSCO Container Lines Co Ltd, the container arm of the State-owned shipping conglomerate COSCO Group, is one of the world's leading providers of integrated container shipping services.

Last year, the company prioritized digital development and encouraged innovative projects so as to promote its digital transformation.

YunQuNa, a shipping digital platform service provider in Lujiazui, has attracted more than 10,000 shipping companies, with the total number of ships on each route of the platform exceeding 150,000.

Zhou Shihao, CEO of the company, said he believed that data flows had become a driving force in the global economy.
