Shanghai's Pudong New Area hosted a rowing race for local Chinese and foreign enterprises on Dec 8.

Twenty teams from 12 noted Chinese and foreign enterprises such as Cushman & Wakefield and Shendi Group, and eight rowing clubs competed during the event.

Zhang Yuepeng, president of Pudong Association of Foreign Investment, said that the event was launched to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, and also to promote exchanges between Chinese and foreign enterprises and to advocate a healthy lifestyle among local workers.

The rowing race will be developed into an annual brand event in Pudong, Zhang added.

Taking place at the Shanghai International Resort, the event was a significant move by the resort to promote the integration of the tourism and sports industries and develop itself into a sports industrial cluster.

Li Zhihong, deputy inspector of Shanghai International Resort Administrative Committee, said that the resort has unique water resources and has built sports facilities such as riverside walkways and wharves for water sports, which has laid the foundation for the resort to become a sports industrial cluster.
