The Expo Area in Pudong, Shanghai announced the official launch of a video game industry service platform on Aug 16, with the hope of developing Pudong into a hub of the industry.

The move follows the release of 50 measures by the Shanghai government to boost the city's creative cultural industry last year, which stipulated this as one of its goals.

To realize this, the local government have embarked on encouraging investments in building venues for e-sports tournaments, developing video game industrial clusters, enhancing the influence and exposure of local video game events, and bringing in some of the world's top-rated video game events.

Pudong was chosen as the core functional area for developing the city's video game industry earlier this month thanks to the area's advantages in the industry.

The Mercedes-Benz Arena in Pudong is seen as an ideal venue for many e-sports tournaments. It has held a series of such events such as the Tencent E-sports Annual Conference and King Pro League China.

Lu Yi, an official at the Expo Area Management Burea, explained that they expect to offer comprehensive services for competitions, talents, and companies of the video game industry via the launch of the platform.
