Five more bridges have been built across the Dazhi River, according to a news report published on the Pudong website on Jan 3. The completion signifies that seven bridges have been built or renovated during the second-phase project of improving the channel of Dalu Line.

Dalu Line is situated in the southeast of Shanghai, which starts from the Huangpu River and runs to the container harbor district of Luchao port. It covers the sections of Lingang New Area and the Dazhi River.

Dalu line is the only major inland waterway which connects the Huangpu River with the container harbor district of Luchao port.

After Dalu line is renovated according to III level channel standards, the inland water transport will be greatly enhanced and also the ecological system along the line will be improved.

The improvement projects are being carried out in two main parts. The first project took place within the Lingang area, extending 16.31 kilometers, and was completed at the end of 2014.

The second one is now under way and it covers an area of 36.12 kilometers. Funds worth 10.2 billion yuan ($1,569 million) have been invested into this project. The conclusion of this project means that 15 of Pudong's bridges that span the shipping lane will have been renovated or built.

Owing to this project, up until now seven new bridges have been built, such as the Xinhui Road Bridge and the Hangnan Road Bridge.

At present, 75 percent of the container handling capability serves the economic belt of the Yangtze River. Through development of the navigation channels of the river, the operation process of transportation has been standardized and its overall transportation capacity has been enhanced. With the channel improvements, ships weighing 1,000 tons or ships carrying 90 standardized containers will navigate through the channel without difficulty.
