The second measure set out by Pudong is to improve the ecological environment.

In February 2016, Pudong published the 13th Five-year plan outlining the district's environmental protection, which set forth the goals towards 2020 in 10 key areas such as forestry construction, water management, and noise pollution.

By 2020, 50,000 mu (3,333 hectares) of forests will be added, greeneries covering an area of 2,400 hectares will be ensured and the area of land covered by forest will amount to 18% of Pudong.

For the construction of ecological corridors, an area of 10,000 mu of ecological corridors will be built along highways such as G1501 highway, S32 Shanghai-Jiaxing-Huzhou highway, and S2 highway.

Improvements will also be made in Bingjiang Park, Nanhui, southeast of Pudong, Zhangjia Zhai of Gaodong Town and the Luhang area of Jinqiao Town.

Pudong will also accelerate the environmental protection of areas on the outskirts of Pudong's city center by planting more trees.

Parks will be renovated by improving the functions of the park and providing a comfortable leisurely place for the local residents.
