Shanghai to promote FTZ reform, innovation

Shanghai city will deepen Free Trade Zone (FTZ) reforms and advance scientific innovation over the next five years, according to Han Zheng, Party secretary of the metropolis,who spoke at the 11th Shanghai Party Congress on May 8.

Some key reforms for the Shanghai pilot FTZ in that period include building an experimental area for comprehensive reforms, setting up a free trade port zone and enhancing governance, Han said.

In addition, Shanghai will continue the strategy of innovation-driven development by advancing the construction of Zhangjiang Comprehensive National Science Center and building a massive amount of world-class science and technology infrastructure.

The city's reform and innovation efforts will serve the country's Belt and Road Initiative, which was put forward by President Xi Jinping in 2013 with the aim of enhancing cooperation with countries across Asia, Europe and Africa.
