The World Expo Area is a key development area in Shanghai and in Pudong New Area. It aims to create a world-class central public activity zone. It is committed to promoting five major functions: headquarters economy, emerging finance, cultural and exhibition events, tourism and leisure, and ecological livability.

Relying on the unique advantages brought by the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the World Expo Area will strive to create a new type of urban area that integrates industry and city, making the area notably more livable.

The area will focus on cultivating industries such as the headquarters economy, the innovative economy, emerging finance, and professional services. A cluster featuring modern and high-end cultural industries will also be built in the area, which will include new business forms, such as culture and creativity, performing arts, tourism, media, fashion, and leisure and entertainment.
