Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, was approved for construction by the State Council in 1990. It covers a total area of 20.48 square kilometers, stretches to the Outer-ring Road Green Belt to the east, East Jinxiu Road to the south, Yanggao Road to the west, and Jufeng Road to the north.

The Jinqiao area serves as an important core functional zone for the advanced manufacturing industry, production-oriented service industries and emerging strategic industries in Shanghai, and is a national demonstration zone for ecological industries.

The zone is the country's only pilot free trade zone focusing on a dual-core strategy and features advanced manufacturing and producer services, and is a key part of Shanghai's mission to build a scientific and technological innovation center with a global influence.

The Administrative Committee of Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone is an agency of Pudong New Area People's Government and stands by its policy of "innovation-driven and transformation development" and coordinates the economic growth of the Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone, Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone (South Park) and Nanhui Industrial Park. It is also providing services to help the economy, projects and enterprises by focusing on cooperation and the integration of resources among parks, promoting the zone's sustainable development and continuously enhancing its growth potential.

According to statistics, Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone, which only covers 2 percent of land in Pudong, has contributed to 25 percent of Pudong's industrial economy.

Equipped with a solid foundation for advanced manufacturing, the Jinqiao zone plans to step up its efforts to promote the development of smart manufacturing using artificial intelligence (AI) and aims to establish a professional, comprehensive and superior industrial layout of the AI industry.

The zone is also striving to become an internationally competitive AI core industrial cluster and cultivate emerging industries related to AI such as intelligent chips, intelligent connected vehicles, intelligent robots and intelligent hardware.

Traditional industries in the zone are being upgraded, and an "AI plus" characteristic industrial layout is expected to be formed in the zone to create a new growth engine for the zone's competitive industries such as advanced manufacturing, finance and shipping.

As Shanghai's main manufacturing base for automobiles, Jinqiao plans to focus on the coordinated development of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs), and build a complete industrial chain covering NEV testing, the research and development of core auto spare parts, and the integrated application of ICVs.
