Regardless of the fact that the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games ended on February 20, young people in Shanghai's Pudong New Area are still buzzing with Olympic spirit and enjoying the thrills of short track speed skating.

Wang Xirui, a 13-year-old girl from Shanghai's Baoshan area, spends one and a half hours each week at the Sanlin Sports Center in Pudong, participating in short track speed skating training courses.

"My daughter's passion was lit up by the first gold medal of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games in the short-track speed skating mixed team relay. Sanlin Sports Center has a professional skating rink, and it offers perfect place for training," said Wang's mother. She added that through seven years of training, her daughter has required perseverance, persistence and endurance.

The sport is thrilling, but it is also hazardous. Bumps and bruises, however, bear no relation to Wang's excitement for skating.

Yue Bo'er, a short track speed skater from Harbin, China's "Ice City," began learning short track speed skating as a toddler. He expressed his pride and encouragement after China's short track speed skaters won the country's first gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Mi Qingci, a short track speed skating coach at the facility, said the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games have sparked a great interest in ice and snow sports, and he believes that more children and students would participate as a result of the establishment of numerous favorable policies.
