Pudong to further promote science education
Pudong New Area in Shanghai launched an annual science festival on May 25. It features 25 main events and 200 other local activities.
An exhibition will showcase major scientific and technological achievements in the fields of lunar exploration and deep-sea engineering, as well as the related innovation chain for main industries.
During the opening ceremony, the Pudong New Area Science and Technology Innovation and Comprehensive Development Demonstration Zone Plan was officially released.
The plan noted that Pudong will work to build a demonstration zone for the development of technological innovation and scientific integration, taking Zhangjiang Science City as its core and aiming to develop a new hub for independent innovation.
Zhangjiang is on the frontline of innovation in Shanghai. By the end of last year, up to 330 national-level research and development institutions had been set up in the zone and more than 100,000 technology companies had been registered there.
In 2019, Pudong built China's first demonstration base for the integration of scientific and technological innovation and the popularization of science with support from various leading enterprises and institutes such as the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility and the National Center for Protein Science.
According to the plan, Pudong will further improve services and facilities for science popularization, raise people's awareness of popular science culture, and help innovative entities carry out popular science work professionally.
