The Shanghai Taiping Rehabilitation Hospital started trial operations in Zhangjiang Science City in Pudong New Area on Dec 19.
The hospital, sponsored by China Taiping Insurance Group, has nearly 800 wards and more than 900 beds.
It provides regular outpatient services to ordinary patients and specializes in elderly care and postoperative rehabilitation.
It is equipped with over 60 kinds of medical devices and is able to provide treatment and healthcare for patients with hearing or speech impairments, spinal cord injuries, hemiplegia, and other illnesses.
A professional team of doctors, therapists, dietitians, and psychologists will make customized rehabilitation plans to help patients recover and resume their normal lives, said Huang Yiran, president of the hospital and a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University,
The hospital is located next to an elderly care community, which is also run by Taiping Group. It prioritizes medical services for the elderly, including senior post-operative rehabilitation, chronic disease management, and personalized healthcare plans based on an assessment of a patient's condition.
The hospital also provides nighttime emergency services, according to Shen Zhenwei, vice-president of the hospital.
In addition, the hospital has reached agreements with nearby 3A-level hospitals on patient transfers. "Patients will be transferred back to their homes or to our hospital to recuperate if their health allows, in order to save on public medical resources," said Shen.
