Zhangjiang Pharma Valley
Zhangjiang Biotech and Pharmaceutical Industrial Base, dubbed "Zhangjiang Pharma Valley", is located in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park.
Founded in 1994 and supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Health, State Food and Drug Administration, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Municipal Government, the Zhangjiang Biotech and Pharmaceutical Base focuses on innovation in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
After more than 20 years of development, the base has become a gathering place for large-scale research institutes, research and development centers of multinational pharmaceutical companies, small and medium-sized innovative companies, and biomedical startups. It has formed a comprehensive bio-pharmaceutical innovation system and industrial clusters.
Zhangjiang is currently home to more than 400 innovation-driven companies. A number of the world's top pharmaceutical companies, such as Novartis, Roche Pfizer and AstraZeneca, have set up development bases in the area.
One of the world's largest Class A biology laboratories, ATLATL, opened an office in Zhangjiang in 2017.
