The rice harvest has hit its peak in Pudong with farmers hard at work trying to get the most yield from their crops before the season ends in the beginning of December.

With a large cultivation area of 171,300 mu (11,420 hectares), Pudong has taken steps to increase its drying areas so that more rice can be processed faster and more efficiently.

The total of 24 industrial rice drying machines were able to process 2,680 tons of fresh rice, more than have of all grains harvested so far this season.

The major advantage of drying is that it preserves the rice so that it can be stored for a longer period of time while still guaranteeing the quality.

The Agriculture Committee of the district drafted a series of plans for this autumn's harvest, focusing on the quality of reaped rice. In addition, barley and wheat will be planted immediately after the rice harvest so that enough grain is produced to supply the whole district.
